new Single ‘Long shot’ from forthcoming ep ‘emanate’
“This Guy’s music literally jumps from the speakers”
- Tom Robinson, BBC 6 Music
South Birmingham’s finest, Alex Lleo, is back via Cádiz with his latest video and single ‘Long Shot’ - the first offering from his soon to be released EP, ‘Emanate’.
A chilled groove laden slow-jam with melodic hooks seeping through every line, the track discusses the conflicting thoughts of someone at a crossroad in their personal life - caught between fulfilling a dream, and enjoying the moment.
Speaking about the track, Alex said: “When you’re in a long relationship, the mind can be a very unhelpful and distracting entity - causing you to question whether you are in fact happy. You still harbour strong feelings, but in your early twenties it’s easy to wonder whether it’s for the best - without then reaching a decisive conclusion. That’s what I was trying to draw upon in Long Shot.”
The visual representation of this in the video comes in the form of two Spanish long boarders from the town of Cádiz, Chano and Marina, who’s interactions on and off the board suggest a strong chemistry - without any conclusive evidence that they will ever act upon it.
Alex continued: ”We had such a blast shooting the Long Shot video, Cádiz is such a beautiful town and the guys really took us under their wing whilst we were there - showing us all the best local haunts and some breathtaking beaches. We even wild camped one night! Chano is incredibly talented at what he does, but off the board it was amazing to capture his interactions between Marina & the natural world. I wanted to use long boarding as a form of expression. Allowing a sense of freedom & chemistry amongst two people who clearly care for each other and their surroundings, I think we captured those moments!”
2018 has been a year of real growth for Alex and his band, with the release of his debut EP, ‘Park Studios, JQ’, playing a packed headline show at St Pancras Church with London’s Communion Records and more recently a big slot at this year’s Boardmasters festival. He also released a two part series of solo acoustic videos from a live session with Mahogany, shot on the beautiful east coast beach of Broadstairs.
It is the future that counts, though, with the forthcoming ‘Emanate’ EP and a headline show at the Cuban Embassy in his hometown of Birmingham on 11th October.
Alex added: “I couldn’t be more excited for the next few months. The three tracks from Emanate are the strongest bank of songs I’ve written and the show at the Cuban Embassy promises to be an amazing night. With me on the bill are my good friends Ed Geater and Philippa Zawe, who are both incredible artists - tickets have started shifting, so get yours now to avoid disappointment!”
